Sir Michael Wilshaw served as Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Education, Children’s Services and Skills from 2012 to 2016.
Prior to his position at Ofsted, Sir Michael had a distinguished career as a teacher for 43 years – 26 of these as a head teacher in London secondary schools. Most recently he held the role of Executive Principal at Mossbourne Community Academy in Hackney, where he was credited with turning a school situated in a deprived part of east London into one of the best performing in England. In addition to leading Mossbourne Community Academy, Sir Michael was Director of Education for ARK, a charitable education trust running a number of academies across England.
In 2000, whilst head teacher for St Bonaventure’s Catholic School, he was knighted for services to education.
Sir Michael joined the Education Policy Institute as a Trustee on the 1st January 2017.
