This December 2024, we were delighted to host the Henan University International Department Directors UK Study Programme, a transformative professional development initiative designed for educational leaders from Henan province. Over the course of eleven days, this bespoke programme provided an immersive exploration of the UK’s higher education landscape, internationalisation strategies, and leadership models.
The delegation engaged in high-level discussions with top academics from Oxford University and UCL, explored world-renowned institutions, and participated in comparative workshops designed to deepen their understanding of British education policies and global education trends.
Exploring UK Higher Education in London
The programme began with a London city tour, providing participants with an introduction to the capital’s rich history, governance, and higher education institutions. With expert guidance, the group visited iconic landmarks such as Buckingham Palace and the Houses of Parliament, setting the stage for their academic journey in the UK.
A key highlight of the London module was a series of academic sessions at UCL’s Institute of Education (IOE), where the delegation attended lectures from some of the UK’s leading education experts. Sessions included:

Beyond the classroom, the delegation visited the British Museum, where they explored world history and culture with expert-led interpretations, reinforcing the importance of cultural exchange in international education.

Participants also had the opportunity to experience Oxford’s academic culture firsthand through a guided exploration of the city, including visits to Christ Church College, the Ashmolean Museum, and the Oxford University Museum of Natural History.
Cultural Exploration
In addition to academic engagements, the delegation had the chance to immerse themselves in British history and culture through visits to:
- Windsor Castle – A guided exploration of one of the UK’s most historic royal residences, where participants learned about British monarchy and governance.
- The Town of Windsor & Eton – A walk through one of the UK’s most prestigious school towns, home to Eton College, one of the world’s most renowned independent schools.
Closing Ceremony & Looking Ahead
The programme concluded with a graduation ceremony, where each participant was awarded a certificate of completion, recognising their commitment to global education leadership.
This transformational learning experience strengthened ties between Henan University and UK institutions, paving the way for future collaborations in research, student mobility, and joint academic initiatives.
As we reflect on this remarkable exchange, we look forward to welcoming future cohorts of international education leaders and continuing to build strong global partnerships in higher education.
